Disconnecting…

-but just for a bit-

RikkAvatarToday, I am packing my Prius to travel to Badlands National Park where I will be serving as Artist In Residence for the month of December.   I served at Badlands in the Spring of 2007 and this is a shot of me during one of my sunset stakeouts.

One of the unique opportunities afforded me by taking on the AIR duties is that I am placed in a remote area with no internet access (unless I want to pay a large amount to hook up for a scant 21 days), very spotty cell phone access, no land line, no email, no texting, no Flickr, no Facebook, little or no connectivity to the world-wide community.

I look upon this as an opportunity. For three weeks and a day, I will have many fewer distractions in my life.  There will be no string of unanswered emails, voice mails or posts over which to fret. My mind can turn inward and focus on the task at hand-namely capturing the beauty of the Badlands in Winter.  The laptop will be come a tool for archival of images rather than a portal to my scattered on-line community.

Badlands in April – What will December bring?

There will be blog entries written while I am on my quest but they will be sparsely posted. Indeed, some may make it to the blog no sooner than my return home the week of Christmas.

So, until December 23rd, give or take, I am offline and probably loving every minute of it.

Love that badlands shot – amazing landscapes you have over there – here in North Wales (UK) we have nothing on that scale of grandeur! :)

  2. Safe trip.

Looking forward to the images you capture on this trip.

  3. Hi Rikk,
Seeing that photo makes me liking to go there too. I have been to arizona 3 times. Great state with a lot of great landscapes. Even though it might not sound as cool ;-) but I came to think about between december 07 and january 08 when I stood and watched and walked around the landscape of petrified forest national park. Envy your great stay and trip. Have a great inspiring trip!!
