What’s in your backpack?
People often wonder what a professional photographer carries around for a ‘portable camera’ and if he carries any other photo accessories with him. I’ve never been one for a pocket camera but I do have a portable set of gear that I try to keep with me at all times.
If you’ve run across me in a non-shooting situation, you will have noticed I am always packing a red backpack. In it are the necessities of life, my Windows Macbook, mouse, paper, pens, tissues, small tools and other items I carry about with me. There is a water bottle, usually an Ipod Nano and a few other odds and ends. In the red backpack I also carry my ‘pocket camera’
My pocket camera consists of the following:
-
Canon G10
-
Canon 580EX Flash
-
Canon ST-E2 Flash Controller
-
Manfrotto 175F Multiple Flash Bracket
-
Photoflex 12” 2-sided reflector
-
Stofen White
-
Roscolux Sample Gel kit with home-made holder
-
Ball bungee
-
Home-made Manila Folder Snoot.
-
Oh, yes and a Joby Gorillapod.
That’s it. That is my ‘pocket camera’ . It doesn’t go deep on long-range wildlife but it does fit in one pocket-of my backpack. With it I can handle a wide variety of impromptu shoots. Anything from Sunset to a short-notice executive portrait is in my pocket-backpack pocket that is.
