My blogging software of choice over the past several years has been Windows Live Writer which is part of the Windows Live Essentials software suite available free from Microsoft. Last week after a long hiatus, the Blog software got a much-needed upgrade.
The interface is now in harmony with other Microsoft products and the new version has an Office 2010 feel to it right down to the ribbon and tabbed navigation at the top. The bulky sidebar is gone, replaced by slick pull-down menus.
Preview of standard HTML tags is now possible from the styles section-a much needed improvement. Also, the selection of and change of appearance to fonts is much more readily accessible.
Other features touted or More Emoticons (as if we needed them), better and more intuitive spell checking, and better copy and pasting between Live Writer and Office applications. In addition, better integration with WordPress as well as them detection make this a pretty significant upgrade.
After searching through and testing many blogging software apps, I find this one to be still the best I’ve run across.

It’s the best; no doubt.
Windows Live Writer is a fantastic offline blogging tool with a WYSIWYG editor. It interfaces with just about any blog service [Blogger, LiveJournal, TypePad, WordPress, etc.] If you’re a blogger you’ll find this tool incredibly helpful- and it’s refreshingly free from Microsoft.
I really like the plug-ins they offer to make it more robust to the user needs.
